What is the main reason for the creation of IP version 6?

The primary reason for the creation of IP version 6 is indeed that IPv4 does not provide enough unique addresses. As the internet grew rapidly in the late 1990s and early 2000s, it became clear that the 32-bit address space of IPv4 could not accommodate the increasing number of devices connected to the internet. Each device requires a unique IP address, and with the limited address pool of IPv4, we faced significant challenges in assigning unique addresses to every device, especially with the emergence of mobile devices and the Internet of Things (IoT).

IPv6 addresses this issue by using a 128-bit address space, allowing for a virtually limitless number of unique IP addresses. This expanded capacity ensures that even as the number of internet-connected devices continues to grow, there will be enough unique addresses available to accommodate them. Other features of IPv6, while beneficial, like improved security and faster data transmission, are not the primary driving force behind its development compared to the need for more unique addresses.
