What type of activities will not take place at the Physical Layer?

The Physical Layer is primarily concerned with the transmission and reception of raw bitstreams over a physical medium. This includes activities like signal modulation and demodulation, establishing a physical connection, and transmitting data bits.

Rerouting of information, however, is not a function of the Physical Layer. Rerouting typically involves higher layers of the networking model, such as the Network Layer, where decisions about how to forward data packets are made based on logical addressing. This task goes beyond mere physical transmission, involving intelligence about the paths data should take through the network, which is not a responsibility of the Physical Layer. Thus, while the Physical Layer handles the fundamental aspects of data transmission, routing and rerouting operate at a higher level in the protocol stack.
